What I see at DailyKos

DailyKos has become an intolerant, close minded, verbally violent and censorship site reminiscent of the days in 1920's Germany.  In the early days of the Nazis rise to power opposing views were met with physical attacks.  They would demonize and silence their opponents.  Their followers would mindlessly support the actions of the party and it's candidate.  There was no open political discourse and those that attempted it paid a price.  The Nazis were and remain the extreme example of what happens when good people don't pay attention.  This is not to say that the DailyKos has become like the Nazis but it is in the very early stages of approaching the entrance of the highway to censorship which is never a positive thing.

The most troubling aspect on the DailyKos site is that the Obama supporters don't see their own tactics as abusive.  We have seen many examples on the news of what 'Internet Violence' is capable of doing.  In the extreme it has led to death.  Politcal bullying on the Internet has replaced 'physical intimidation'.  Otherwise 'good individuals'  become something else when in a group as if the personality of the group replaces the individual's personality.  DailyKos would be an excellent study in group mentality and it's effect on individual minds.  Indeed even Kos himself has been infected perhaps with a 'perception of power rather than real power', (ie. the darkening of Obama's photo).  Above all the barrier of the Internet itself lends to individuals 'expression of thought with no consequence'.  The anonymity of the crowd has led to some of the most grotesque abuses in the world.  Today we have the 'anonymity of the Internet'.

The DailyKos is free to follow whatever course it will but if the purpose is free and open political dialogue, the train has jumped off the tracks.  Of course political campaigns in our nation have always been 'spirited'.   It is when free and open political discourse is replaced with 'Internet Intimidation', physical violence, censorship or mindless, unquestioning loyalty that the warning bells should sound.  It is only when a party or a candidate's ideas are weak and fraught with deception that censorship or intimidation become acceptable to the supporters.

Disclaimer: I don't support Clinton or Obama.  For having expressed my views on DailyKos I have been censored.

Re: What I see at DailyKos (none / 0)

I'd like more specifics. I read dKos regularly and have never seen anything like a threat. I've heard about them lately. It's pretty odd, since I remember when Obama was just another also-ran against Edwards. While he was still in the race (and weeks after) you couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting an Edwards diary or two in the rec list.

Also, what does "censored" mean? Do you mean an admin deleted you, or people TR'd your comments, or what? This diary would be much more informative with links and quotes.

Re: What I see at DailyKos (none / 0)

It's not an explicit threat it's 'Internet Intimidation'.  People pile on to anyone not supporting Obama.  Look at any proClinton diary or any diary not supporting Obama.

Re: What I see at DailyKos (none / 0)

What does that mean, though? Yes, dKos has many more Obama supporters. Yes, any pro-Clinton diary will get a lot of anti-clinton comments. There are plenty of pro-clinton comments as well, as well as pro-Clinton diaries. They don't get recommended much.

It's the exact opposite here. Complete cut-and-paste diaries right off Clinton's site soar to the top of the rec list. Invective against Obama gets uprated by reflex. Pro-Obama diaries almost never make the rec list.

What's the difference?

Re: What I see at DailyKos (none / 0)

It means that instead of opening a dialogue with a poster who doesn't agree with your ideas, you and one hundred others 'flame' the poster some expressing really vile thoughts.

Me and? How did I get grouped in with people flaming? That's an uncalled for attack.

One comment on DailyKos (none / 0)

I saw not too long ago said they wanted to "kneecap" Clinton...and I have seen repeated violent threats there...like kids posting on Utube or something, just crazy things being said.

I am sick of the disrespect shown to Sen.Clinton by many on Dailykos, and now, too often, here. You aren't winning hearts and minds.

Re: What I see at DailyKos (none / 0)

I personally don't go to dailykos, or moveon.org.  These people are clones of talk radio and all that I despise about that., left wing lunatics are just as disturbing as the right wing nuts are, they have some of the same mind games, you have to agree with their outrageous positions, people say the most disgusting things and it is not a political expression at all but a hate site which promotes only hate.  They are not even supporting their candidate because Obama is suppose to be about the politics of change and unity, but these people are nothing like that.  they are offensive in the extreme.  Even here you find those who just want to attack someone who doesn't support Obama or drink the coolaid.  I have had people troll rate me for merely discussing facts or opinions without cussing or saying under the belt comments like they always say about Hillary.  I am particularly disgusted by those who think it is their business to insult not only Hillary but attack me personally just because I defend her and don't worship Obama.

Dkos to the Nazis.  Mydd is barely an intellectual pimple of Dkos's ass.

I was going to '2' you for the first sentence but then came the second sentence.

What did the bloggers at DailyKos do again? Did they troll rate you? Oh Fuck. Next thing you know, they're gonna invade Poland. Thanks for warning us ahead of time. You are the most important person in the history of the universe.

Re: What I see at DailyKos (none / 0)

How about this, there are some imbecilic over-the-top Obama bullies and there are some imbecilic over-the-top Clinton bullies.  One set tends to congregate more over there, one set here.  Their constituencies egg them on which is why it is not going to stop.  Furthermore, blog hates a vacuum and will fill it with any kind of trash because of all the people who love to hear themselves write.  Between the grossness of the worst of the Obama supporters and the passive-aggressive self-congratulatory tone of the worst of the Clinton supporters things have gotten ridiculous.  Why not, as moms say to their little children who can't stop inventing excuses to fight, just ignore what you don't like.  All of these idiots thrive on attention.  Don't give it.

Re: What I see at DailyKos (2.00 / 1)

I find funny is that someone over at DKos bitch and moaned about Clinton's saying nice things about McCain

Then left a comment about how he/she will vote for McCain over Clinton because he's an honorable man with great moral character.

Take about hypocrisy.

So much hand-wringing (none / 0)

about dailykos.  We get the same thing about MyDD, about how far the level of discourse has fallen. Well, it's true of course, for both sites, but it is probably a vocal minority creating that impression.

There's nothing new about any of this.  It happens during elections.  I honestly don't think it really matters that much.  It's a bunch of people creating drama for their own entertainment.

I think it usually counts for very little in the real world.  Just chill and let these sites be what they are.  If you find it distressing, consider that if you were to stop participating you might be a happier person, and the future of mankind would probably not be altered.

Re: What I see at DailyKos (none / 0)

I believe comparing the pro Obama tone at KO's to the death of 6 million Jews a lazy, if not vile, comparision..

Furthermore, which campaign is guilty of race baiting here?.....ahhhhh..Hitler would be proud..Heil Hillary

Re: What I see at DailyKos (none / 0)

I wrote a diary on intimidation tactics not the slaughter of six million jews.  If you'll read the entire diary you'll get that!  You only see the words Nazi and DailyKos which is interesting in itself.

Amazing.

Calling Obama supporters Nazis?  The hypocrisy of the Hillary "strike" supporters smacks me in the face like a soiled diaper.
